China's Ministry of Commerce: The tariffs announced by Mexico harm the country's interests

China’s Ministry of Commerce urged Mexico to rectify its unilateral protectionist practices as soon as possible, asserting that the tariffs imposed by the Latin American nation harm Chinese interests.

The ministry explained on its website that although the tariffs implemented by Mexico are lower than initially announced, they still damage China’s national interests.

The ministry stated that raising the tariffs might serve the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), but stressed that no agreement should be concluded at the expense of global trade or to the detriment of China’s legitimate interests.

This came after Mexico agreed to impose tariffs of up to 50% on products imported from China and other countries.
